2/4 Blog

Today we talked about Hippias and Sparta and Athens.

Notes:

-Hippias was a tyrant who ruled from 527 to 510 BCE
-His brother was murdered and his rule became harsh
-He was eventually expelled (ostracized) from Athens
-He helped king Darius I invade Marathon
-With Hippias gone, Isagoras and Cleisthenes engaged in a power struggle.
-Isagoras had Sparta's support along with other aristocrats, while Cleisthenes had Athenians support.
-Isagoras won and become archon emponymous.
-Athenians rose against Isagoras in 506 BCE.
-Sparta had an amazing infantry, while Athens had an amazing navy.
