2/3 Blog

Today in class we discussed Aritocrats and tyrants and how wealthy people had roles in Greece.

Notes I took:

-Aristocracy: Rule by a small group or noble, very rich landowning family.
-Oligarchy: Wealthy groups, dissatisfied with Aristocratic rule, who seized power often with military help.
-Tyrant: Powerful individual who seized control by appealing to the common people for support.
-During the seventh and sixth centuries BCE Aristocrats ran Greece.
-Aristocrats were members of the ruling class.
-Sometimes Aristocrats would form alliances with hoplites (well armed soldiers) and set up an alternative form of government called Tyrant.
-Draco and Solon made a lot of law reforms to help benefit the people in Greece.
-In around B.C Cleisthenes made a lot of reforms as well.
